Congolese Conserved areas members  of the ''CAF RDC asbl''

1. TAYNA NATURAL RESERVE

Created since. 2006, the Tayna Natural Reserve (RNT) is a protected area in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with community reserve status. It is located in the center of North Kivu, and is shared between the Bamate and Batangi communities in the Lubero territory, over a total area of 700 km2.

Curently, the reserve is managed by Hydrolique sans frontiere '' HYFRO asbl''

Since September 21th, 2020 the  CAF RDC asbl and HYFRO asbl  signed a 5 years collaboration contract for the the Rehabilitation and the sustainability of the Tayna Natural Reserve.

APRODAT asbl is one of the local associations which support the community surveillance around the reserve.

There are several villages around the Tayna Natural Reserve but local communities are acutely vulnerable and poor. 

it is important and urgent to carry out various economic security projects, reforestation projects and integrate income-generating activities in neighboring villages in order to raise their socio-economic standing. Certainly this will have a positive impact to the Wildlife conservation in the reserve.

Mr Ephrem KATWALA is the current Site Manger of the Tayna Natural Reserve. He is graduated in Ecology and Management of Animal Resources at Kisangani University.

2. NATURAL AND MODERN MEDICINE `` MENANO asbl ''

MENAMO asbl is an environmental association which brings together local arborists.

Created in 2012, MENAMO asbl focuses on the production of medicinal essences in order to produce traditional medicines from medicinal plants and thus treat patients who want them.

It is operational in the Goma city and in villages bordering the Virunga National Park (MUJA, Rusayo, Sake, Kibati, Beni, etc.).

Since October 5, 2020, a collaboration contract between MENAMO asbl and CAF RDC asbl has been signed with a view to piloting a community reforestation project based on forest species around the Virunga National Park.

MENAMO asbl. was founded by Mr KASEREKA KAVWARO FIRMIN.

For the moment, MENANO asbl has installed several health structures in the Goma city and around( Muja, Sake, Rusayo, Minova )under the coordination of Mr. Innocent KAPAPALA.




3. LUVIRU NATURAL RESERVE

The Luviru Nature Reserve has a special place among the reserves of the planet.

Since Belgian colonization, the community of Luviru has lived in harmony with biodiversity while safeguarding animal and plant species protected by Congolese law, since that time this community has acquired principles of sustainable development which emphasizes the economy. , society and the preservation of biodiversity.

Created since 2020, The forests of Luviru is a natural habitat for several endangered species in the DRC Eastern lowland gorilla (Gorilla graueri), Elephant, buffalo, Pangolins, Okapi,... etc

Luviru Naturelle Reserve is situated between Maiko National Park and Tayna Natural Reserve.

Currently, the Reserve is managed by a local association called Solidarity for the Protection of the Luviru Forest '' SOPROFOLU asbl''.

A collaboration contract between CAF RDC asbl and SOPROFULU asbl for the Rehabilitation and Stability of the Luviru Natural Reserve is being negotiated

Mr MUFABULE VAKYKULA is the current site Manager of the Luviru Natural Reserve.

4. VIRUNGA NATIONAL PARK

Virunga National Park is a national park in the Albertine Rift Valley in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was created in 1925 and is among the first protected areas in Africa.

In elevation, it ranges from 680 m (2,230 ft) in the Semliki River valley to 5,109 m (16,762 ft) in the Rwenzori Mountains. From north to south it extends about 300 km (190 mi), largely along the international borders with Uganda and Rwanda in the east. It covers an area of 8,090 km2 (3,120 sq mi) and is listed in the List of World Heritage in Danger since 1994.

Mount Mikeno is the natural habitat of Gorilla Beringei Beringei.

Mr Emmanuel De Merode is the current Director & Chief Park warden of Virunga National Parc.

Ranger Patric Sadiki and Mathieu Shamavu are heroes rangers who are guarding the baby orphan gorillas at the Senkwekwe sanctuary of Rumangabo.

In the Nyamulagira sector, there is the Nyiragongo volcano which periodically threatens the city of Goma

There have been several deadly attacks in the park by rebel groups, and several park rangers have been killed like the last one made in Avril 2020 when more than 12 Virunga Ranger was killed were killed in an ambush by the FLDR at Mahura.

A collaboration contract between CAF RDC asbl and Virunga National Park is being negotiated.

6. NETWORK OF PLANTERS AND TREE SELLERS `` RPVA asbl''

Created since 2004, RVPA asbl is an environmental organization which focuses on bringing together local nurserymen to produce and sell seedlings to local communities as part of promoting community reforestation in the territory of Rutshuru.

Since October 5th, 2020, RPVA asbl and CAF RDC asbl have signed a 5-years Renewable collaboration contract in order to manage various projects in favor of local communities:

-School nurseries project,

- School-field project,

- Budding genius,

And organization of Forum lounge in the villages of Rutshuru territory in order to contribute to the fight against climate change and the Reduction of Emissions due to Deforestation '' REDD + ''.
